Doctoral Studies in Industrial Engineering and Management

Aalto Doctoral Programme in Science offers doctoral studies in the field of industrial engineering and management. The studies are organized by the Deparment of Industrial Engineering and Management (DIEM), which conducts world-class research and education focusing on the creation and transformation of technology-based business.

The deparment's research focuses on three complementary perspectives: strategy and venturing, operations and service management, and entrepreneurial leadership. These three areas offer our doctoral students a wide selection of research opportunities, paradigms and methodology from which to choose and focus in their dissertation research. Our internationally acknowledged research and close connections to diverse industries are also the foundations of our highly recognized teaching in under-graduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. We typically encourage doctoral students to also participate in teaching of under-graduate and graduate courses along with their research in order to build their capabilities for potential future academic careers.

The doctoral studies prepare our doctoral students for academic careers to conduct world class research and teaching as well as for expert positions in the department's research fields. Doctors graduating from the program push the envelope on science, create new scientific knowledge, and identify and address important challenges by applying scientific knowledge in various industries and in the public sector. Our academic placements include among others Stanford University, Imperial College Business School, University of Southern California, IE Business School, Rotterdam School of Management, McGill University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Erasmus University.

Doctoral Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management is part of Aalto Doctoral Programme in Science organized and administratively coordinated by Aalto Scool of Science (SCI). The important information about applying for and conducting doctoral studies in Aalto SCI can be found in INTO.
