The title of the dissertation is: Video-based observations on the construction of social presence in virtual worlds

Laura Kohonen-Aho, M.Soc.Sci., will defend the dissertation "Video-based observations on the construction of social presence in virtual worlds" on 17 November 2017 at 12 noon at the Aalto University School of Science, lecture hall T2, Konemiehentie 2, Espoo. The dissertation studies how distributed teams establish social presence between team members in virtual worlds. The results show that team members can initiate and maintain social presence in different ways by engaging in verbal, nonverbal, and virtually embodied interactions, but certain ways of constructing social presence can eventually either facilitate or distract team’s task interaction.
